Going for a ride…

Yes, I’m off on a ride around town, cant wait to get my odeometer/speedometer, going further each time.  BUT have to be aware of time and sun.   the sun has to be above me so I dont have to worry about my eyes and the sun.  Bad combination.  Having fun.  Since i did drive trucks (BIG trucks).  I know that I have to watch out for driveways, streets, cars, etc.  I am VERY careful.

But Im out and doing YES  hoping for an hour a day every day……

a Little bit of freedom

When they took my keys (to the car)  i thought it ws over…….

Then my husband got a Motorcycle, and we would go to the showrooms and have to walk around all thosescooters and cycles…..uh…… I was near tears all the time.  i have had a car since I was 16 years old and  took away my keys.  i even drove simi’s for a few years, and they took away my keys.

My world shrank. …to whatever I could walk to…or bus to… or be “taken” to. although my friends have been terrific.  Its just not the same.

Now I got a little bit of freedom.   an ELECTRIC Bicycle.  Its peddle assist, so I have to peddle, but it gives me that Little bit of freedom to go when and almost where I want.  Today was the first time i went “OFF” my small foute and did about 10 miles.  WOW.

I have to pay alot of attention to driveways, streets, cars, the road, but this bike doesnt go fast, just steady.  Its great.

Closing the Blind Eye

Okay here is one for the ladies only.  Men may enjoy it.  At a young age we are taught to use hooks and eyes and never see them.  They are on the back of a dress, at the top of the zipper to hold the flaps. Even more important they are on the back of our bras.  We hook them effortlessly, since we do it over and over and over. we never “see” them.  We know they are there. Read more »

Blind with no computer

My computer was out for several weeks.  What to do during the day with not big letters.

I made lots of cookies. Which I need like  “a hole in the head”.

I listened to booka dna made more afgans.  I watched my dvr recofings.  (Im a trekkie) and will watch all the reruns over and over….I know them by heart and dont have to sit right in front of the tv to watch.)

I’m glad I’m back…… I hope it lasts…….

the BLIND leading the BIND

I guess that  everyone gets “the talk”. Someone gave it to me and I passed it on.

I didn’t think that I needed a cane or a monocular. I was working on a job site, the lady that I was working with had macular degeneration. We talked extensively about the “ins and outs” and the “ups and downs” of the problem.  Then she said her cane was her biggest help. In crowds, it makes you noticed.  I didn’t think I needed one.

She brought out her monocular  and told me to focus it on my worker’s in the truck. They were goffing off and I saw them . Very soon after I got a cane and a monocular.

I gave the talk to a friend recently . He’s a new  friend. He’s completely blind, sitting in the dark all day, he had a good job at a fun life. He didn’t know he needed “the talk”  but he did. I think he’s ready to try more. At least by helping its
