In 2001 I found that when I drove my car, suddenly, there would be a Car in front of me . I didn’t know why I hadn’t seen the car. Then I noticed that it was a white car on a white street or a black car on a black street . I also found that my depth perception was off. When I backed into space, there was always several feet still to go into the spot .

I went to the eye doctor, after a series of tests, he said I had macular degeneration. He explained to me that the centers of my eyes, the macula, was deteriorating. He didn’t know how fast it would happen, he didn’t know whether it would be one eye or two, he suggested I go to the Braille institute.

I did. But that is really getting ahead of things.

For the next several years, I started to notice a gold ball. No matter what I look at I saw a gold ball. Actually it was hundreds of gold balls . I don’t know any other way to describe them. I saw some things in pieces. When I looked at a phone number , I was never sure if I was seeing the seven numbers in order or whether I was missing one and seeing another one twice. Reading was the same way. People ask me what I see . I described it as when I look at you and what straight in the face I don’t see your face I know you have one, but it’s not they’re. All I see are shoulders. If you think of the doughnut, just like that, the center is missing but I can can see the doughnut . So I want to look at someone I look a foot above their heads can see their face. They can have a wart on the end of thir nose I wouldn’t know it.

I went to a specialist who told me the same thing as the eye doctor . Unfortunately no one knows what causes it, so they don’t know how to stop it, or cure it. They took a lot of tests and monitored the degredation. Basically I had to just wait it out and see how long or what would happen.
